Lost Boy

Postlude II

Euphemia had died and with her went the next steps of the Gnascum Potion.  It was August the thirty-first and the Hogwarts Express was leaving from King’s Cross the next day.  Potter Abbey was cast in pall of mourning and Harry couldn’t sleep.

He walked throughout the Abbey not really having a destination, but he found himself in Euphemia’s potions lab.  There was a stasis spell over the potion, which was a sickly mauve.  Harry didn’t know how far it was from complete.  Euphemia had estimated at least two years, but she hadn’t even confided in Fleamont as to her recipe or planned steps.

This was as good as the potion was going to get.

Harry took a ladle that was hanging from a hook on the wall and dipped it into the potion.  The liquid hissed and steamed, but Harry was not afraid.  His entire future hinged on this concoction.

Lifting the ladle to his lips, he drank it down.

Letting the ladle drop from his hands, Harry felt a wave of dizziness overcome him.  He jolted backward and stumbled toward a bench and shakily lowered himself down to it.  Sweat began to bead on his forehead, but he paid it no attention.  He could feel his insides begin to churn and constrict.

A smile began to form on his face.

There was still hope.

The End.
