Well, it’s that time of year again. Tomorrow, NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) begins, and I’ve taken four prompts and shoved them into one large (Bridgerton) idea. The title of this insane endeavor is currently Black Thestral in a Cherry Tree. If you think that sounds familiar that’s because there was a song by KT Tunstall 14 years ago called Big Black Horse and a Cherry Tree (watch the official music video), which I happened to listen to last August when I was contemplating NaNo.

You know me and a good song fic from fifteen years back.

Anyway, I will be posting wordcounts and quotes on this blog throughout the month of November. The goal is to write 50,000 words in a month (or 1667 words a day) and hopefully finish the project inside the month of November (though that’s not always possible if the project proves longer than 50k).

Previous NaNoWriMos include Of Princes and Fireflies (2009), of Lordlings and Lullabies (abandoned) (2014), a short story collection including “Contessa Isabella Maria Volturi” and “Inside Her Mind” (2017), Hide Me Quiet (2018), ManEater (2020), and Cave Kisses (Expanded Edition) (2022).

Wish me well! -cen

  1. Even though you just made me feel reaaaaal old by putting a number to K.T. Tunstall’s absolute banger of a song, best wishes and cheers for your NaNo this year! ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶
